White Skin Privilege is Sweet! SWEET!

There are many great things about being part of the white majority, but one of my favorites is that I don't have to release a statement condemning it every time some white guy somewhere shoots people.

Maybe you should start. I've had it with your kind.

We don't have to condemn our fellows whiteman's bomb droppings either. Hell, we are expected to gloat over them.

Posted by: Marcus at November 6, 2009 04:01 PM

Should we whities have to issue an apology every time one of our kind uses tragic events to make political and/or bigoted remarks?

Jon, you know I'm with you 105% of the time, but if what you write in this post is true, then what exactly is this website/blag?

Well, (1) I hardly keep up with EVERY white person shooting someone, and (2) it's done of my own free will, no societal pressure involved. (Just the opposite, in fact.)

and there are so many more reasons to be thankful for this blessing:

Look, a list of white privileges!

Nidal Hasan is white according to standard US demographic classification.

I think you mean to say that "as a Christian you don't feel the need to apologize every time a coreligionist shoots someone."

Of course, if some soldier shot up an army base while screaming "Christ is King," I suspect that all Christian churches would in fact hasten to condemn the act.

I also suspect that a lot of lefties would have no trouble blaming Christian fundamentalists in general for this solitary act of lunacy.

This reminds me of the response on this site to the Mumbai massacre a year ago, when that too was dismissed as an unfair exaggeration by the media of an everyday occurance-death.

You guys seem a little preoccupied with preventing a rush to judgement against total maniacs going on shooting sprees against crowds of unarmed people.

Seth! I thought you'd disappeared forever. What a disappointment.

Posted by: Jonathan Schwarz at November 7, 2009 08:28 AM

Has the American Psychiatric Association has denounced this yet? Their fingerprints are all over this.

Posted by: N E at November 7, 2009 09:49 AM

Yes, Seth, how dare you introduce Jonathan to logic? Those without it are too eager to avoid it.

Posted by: Jason at November 7, 2009 11:16 AM

My goodness, Jason, you've unmasked me. Obviously if a Christian fundamentalist U.S. president started a gigantic war killing hundreds of thousands of Muslims because God told him to because it was necessary to defeat Gog and Magog and the priest who'd delivered the invocation at his inauguration had called Islam "a very wicked and evil religion" and a U.S. general who tortured Iraqi Muslims had said America was in a holy war battling "Satan" and American soldiers were painting "Jesus Killed Mohammed" on the outside of their tanks in Arabic, then all mainstream U.S. Christian denominations would have to immediately repudiate it.

That's so obviously logical, it's no wonder that leftist defenders of massacres like myself are desperate to avoid it.
