The Felonious American Dream

McCain defends himself:

I am grateful for the fact that I have a wonderful life. I spent some years without a kitchen table, without a chair, and I know what it's like to be blessed by the opportunities of this great nation. Cindy's father, who barely finished high school, went off and distinguished himself in World War II in a B-17 and came back with practically nothing and realized the American dream, and I am proud and grateful for that, and I think he is a role model to many young Americans who serve in the military and come back and succeed.

I didn't realize the American Dream included being a mobbed-up convicted felon.

But seriously, usually it's the Democrats who are mobbed-up. Most Republicans have the money to engage in organized crime so high level that it's called "foreign policy."

"Most Republicans have the money to engage in organized crime so high level that it's called 'foreign policy.'"

This made me laugh out loud.

I think I want to apply for a liquor license.

As Sam said above, that line was perfect.

Unfortunately, there's no cop on the global beat to stop "foreign policy".

But... but McCain was a POW!

Not to go all cosmic on everyone here, but all society is a racket. Ever since the first guy held the keys to the granary there has been an unequal distribution of labor and resources. Religion rationalizes the inequality and government enforces it.

That's why Cindy's license plates say "Ms Bud" and mine say "X472WTF". All men are created equal my ass.

At least McCain didn't claim that he, himself after dropping bombs on people had then been successful at anything, other than dumping his handicapped wife and marrying a young beer baroness.

i love my tiny revolution.

What Sam and Dee said.

And does this have anything to do with why a hundred college presidents have come out in favor of lowering the drinking age? Or is it just a coincidence that they raised the issue just as McBush's campaign was heating up?

Posted by: OppEd at August 25, 2008 01:38 PM

OppEd: Draft is comming soon and this question always comes up at such times. If the college kids get to drink at 18 then why not the highschoolers of 18 and 0ver.

So, what's new?

"My country 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of felony,
Of thee I sing-
...
I love thy thieving bills
That tap the people's tills..."

Just a wee bit unfair. Does our side scream bootlegger when Kennedy's name comes up?

Just sayin'.

I'm on board with Obama/Biden, and as an Arizona native I have no love for John McCain, but people need to understand this: The Phoenix New Times is far from an unbiased source. What they say *may* be true, but it may also be exaggerated to prove their point. I love 'em, but I never cite 'em.

Posted by: Greenbandit at August 25, 2008 07:12 PM

At least the side I'm on screams about the Kennedys acquiring their money through funny business.

Politics is merely the continuation of organised crime by other means.

Ever since the first guy held the keys to the granary there has been an unequal distribution of labor and resources.

Or as Rousseau put it:

The first man who, having fenced in a piece of land, said, "This is mine," and found people naïve enough to believe him, that man was the true founder of civil society.
