"Mike and Jon, Jon and Mike—I've known them both for years, and, clearly, one of them is very funny. As for the other: truly one of the great hangers-on of our time."—Steve Bodow, head writer, The Daily Show

"Who can really judge what's funny? If humor is a subjective medium, then can there be something that is really and truly hilarious? Me. This book."—Daniel Handler, author, Adverbs, and personal representative of Lemony Snicket

"The good news: I thought Our Kampf was consistently hilarious. The bad news: I’m the guy who wrote Monkeybone."—Sam Hamm, screenwriter, Batman, Batman Returns, and Homecoming

Better Or Worse Than Talking To Pictures?

From a column today by Georgie Anne Geyer:

...by all reports, President Bush is more convinced than ever of his righteousness.

Friends of his from Texas were shocked recently to find him nearly wild-eyed, thumping himself on the chest three times while he repeated "I am the president!" He also made it clear he was setting Iraq up so his successor could not get out of "our country's destiny."

Here's the famous "crazy" section from The Final Days by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein:

On the Sequoia trip the night before, [Nixon's son-in-law Edward] Cox said, the President had made it clear he was not going to quit...

Cox sounded distraught. He was worried about the President's mental health. The President was not sleeping, and he had been drinking. The man couldn't take it much longer, Cox said. The President had been acting irrationally...

"The President..." Cox began. His voice rose momentarily. "The President was up walking the halls last night, talking to pictures of former Presidents—giving speeches and talking to the pictures on the wall."

They're nuts. Then again so are all of their supporters. What's new here? People on the far fringes of any political movement must know they are doomed to eventual failure and complete historical obscurity. These are simply examples of their fear bearing itself out in full physical form....

Maybe he was really performing the mea culpa, mea culpa, maxime mea culpa from the Confiteor?

Let's not forget the nuclear launch scene from the movie, "The Dead Zone":

President Stillson: Do it, General.

General: You're insane. I won't.

Stillson: Do it! You'll go down in history with me!

General: As what? The world's greatest mass murderers?

Stillson: You cowardly bastard!

General: You're not the voice of the people!

Stillson: The people speak through me! It came to me while I slept-- my destiny. I must get up now and fulfill my destiny! Put your hand on that, or I'll hack it off! Do it!

General: May God forgive me. (He puts his hand on a fingerprint scan, authorizing a nuclear weapon launch).

Stillson: Congratulations, General.

Sonny: Complete the sequence, Mr. President.

Stillson: My destiny. (He pushes the button to launch a nuclear attack). Thank you, Sonny. Let them come up.

Vice President: Mr. President, we have a diplomatic solution.

Stillson: Mr. Vice President, Mr. Secretary,
the missiles are flying. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.

FACE FACTS, he is NOT insane, he is just being George.

He/they ARE insane. If even his Texas friends are leaking scenes like this to the Dallas press,we are all in big trouble. I hope someone in the WH has a plan B ready...

It's worse than talking to pictures, because it is not poetic; it's pathetic.

Agreed secret. Nixons' balls are worth far more in real world toughness, integrity and overall intelligence than Hail To The Chimp could live out ten lifetimes to have....

And Nixon was clinically retarded.

Bush: I am the president!

Cheney: (chuckles) Sure, whatever you say, Junior. Now run along and play with your teleprompter like a good little boy. Condi and I are talking here.
