Our elites?
Who else but the "Power Elite" C. Wright Mills depicted in 1956?
Slightly different composition today, same values and same methods of preparing for entry and managing progress as members.
New elites? Better elites? No elites at all?
Right. When Harvard cheerleaders are better-looking than UCLA cheerleaders, we'll be ready for change you can believe in.

We are all familiar with the dictum, which I've seen attributed to Galbraith pere, "Under capitalism man exploits man. And under Communism it is just the reverse."

Less well known is the riddle about the difference between a girl in church and a girl in the bathtub. A girl in church has hope in her soul, whereas a girl in the bathtub is washing herself thoroughly.

Whether we can realistically hope that our system of political economy can be effectively cleansed, whether by our current ruling elite with our new mulatto nominal leader, or by an informed and mobilized citizenry, or some combination thereof -----

As they say, the difficult we do at once - the impossible takes a little longer. Don't hold your breath.

May the Creative Forces of the Universe have mercy on our souls, if any.
