It's immensely interesting to look at the connections people like Rumsfeld have working for them from an early age. We will be living in the shadow of this man's acts for a very long time.

Hit the Post button a little too quick...

While it makes for compelling writing and an almost conspiracy theory tack to the story, the overly anthropic writing is unappealing. The assertion that the appointment of Ford as Minority Leader in '64 lead inexorably to the Bush administration's current debacle, one of many examples in the article of this kind of writing, is a little far-fetched to say the least.

But how does he know this, for example:


He [Bush Sr.] had gotten the [head of the CIA] job thanks to a cynical recommendation from Rumsfeld, calculating that to put Bush at the scandal-ridden agency would eliminate him as a potential rival
